A Day in the Life

When do you listen to what?

Which type of music do you listen to at different times during the day? At the Center for Music in the Brain we've analysed billions of tracks and found that musical features such as the tempo and danceability change during the day. Now we want to figure out why, and you can help us!

In this experiment we'll look at your Spotify playlists, and categorize them into one of these five times of the day:

Morning: From 05:00 to 11:00 (5:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.)

Afternoon: From 11:00 to 19:00 (11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.)

Evening: From 19:00 to 23:00 (7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.)

Night: From 23:00 to 03:00 (11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.)

Early morning/late night: From 03:00 to 05:00 (3:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.)

To participate you log in through Spotify. We ask permission to view your playlists so you can choose which of your playlists to analyse. Once it has been analysed we will let you know which time of the day we think it belongs to, and whether you agree.

We collect only anonymised data, such as the name of the tracks in your playlists. If you participate you agree to let us use the data for research purposes. For more information press here.
